NDE Examiner

Livingston, LA

Epic Piping has an exciting opportunity available for an NDE Examiner to be an integral part of our Quality team. Epic takes pride in our quality of work and has a goal of building our workforce with the most talented employees.

 WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Quality System & Code Compliance

  • Ensure all NDE activities comply with ASME Section III (NCA, NB, NC, ND as applicable), ASME Section V (Nondestructive Examination), 10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality assurance criteria, and applicable NRC regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of ASME Section III, Section V, applicable ASNT/SNT-TC-1A personnel qualification requirements, and nuclear QA program requirements governing NDE of pressure boundary components.
  • Perform all NDE examinations strictly in accordance with written, approved examination procedures that meet the requirements of ASME Section V and Section III; no examination shall be conducted absent an approved procedure.
  • Support the NQA-1 program by ensuring all examination activities conform to the approved Quality Assurance Program (QAP), applicable Quality Instructions (QIs), and travel inspection hold and witness point requirements.

NDE Examination Performance

  • Perform qualified NDE examinations on weldments, base materials, and pressure boundary components using applicable methods including Liquid Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Radiographic (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), and Visual (VT), as authorized by current ASNT/SNT-TC-1A Level II or III certification.
  • Inspect weldments and components for rejectable indications including cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration, undercut, laminations, seams, and other discontinuities; evaluate indications against ASME Section III acceptance standards applicable to the component class (NB, NC, ND, NF).
  • Perform dimensional verification of defect indications using calibrated measuring instruments including rulers, calipers, gauges, and micrometers, and document findings to the precision required by the applicable examination procedure.
  • Verify surface condition, accessibility, and examination area preparation prior to examination; confirm preheat requirements and surface temperature compliance for PT and MT examinations in accordance with procedure requirements.
  • Calibrate NDE equipment and reference blocks at the frequency required by the applicable examination procedure; verify calibration status prior to each examination and document calibration data on examination records.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and disposition examination results in accordance with the applicable ASME Section III acceptance criteria; provide formal accept/reject determination and document findings on the NDE examination report.

Documentation & Records

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, isometrics, traveler packages, and applicable ASME Section III design specifications to determine examination scope, method, coverage requirements, and applicable acceptance criteria.
  • Document all examination results on approved NDE examination report forms consistent with ASME Section III data package requirements, NQA-1 traceability obligations, and 10 CFR 50 Appendix B records requirements; entries shall be legible, complete, and made in permanent medium.
  • Record examination data including equipment identification and calibration data, procedure revision, personnel qualification level, examination coverage, indication characterization, and accept/reject status for each examination performed.
  • Mark examined components with accept/reject status and applicable identification in accordance with approved marking and identification procedures, maintaining full traceability to the examination record.
  • Prepare formal NDE examination reports describing examination results, indication characterizations, accept/reject dispositions, and recommended repair or re-examination actions as applicable.
  • Verify that NDE consumables used on austenitic stainless steel and nickel alloy pressure boundary components meet applicable halide and sulfur content restrictions per ASME Section III requirements.

Nonconformance & Corrective Action

  • Communicate significant NDE findings, adverse indication trends, or examination coverage deficiencies to the QC Manager promptly.
  • Perform post-repair NDE to confirm acceptability before releasing the component.

Equipment Calibration & Maintenance

  • Maintain, clean, and calibrate NDE equipment, reference standards, and measuring instruments in accordance with the M&TE Control program; verify current calibration status before each use.
  • Disassemble or remove from service defective or inaccurate instruments, gauges, or calibration standards; coordinate repair and recalibration through the approved M&TE Control process.
  • Read instrument dials, digital displays, and meters to verify that NDE equipment is functioning within the ranges specified by the applicable examination procedure.

Personnel Qualification & Production Monitoring

  • Notify the QC Manager and production supervisors immediately of any condition that constitutes a potential nuclear safety concern, stop-work condition, or threat to pressure boundary integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
